COVID-19 Impact Report

The Livingston County Hunger Council is a collaborative body made up of a cross-section of the community dedicated to ending hunger in Livingston County – government agencies, nonprofits, local businesses and private citizens who have committed to making our community a place where everyone has access to the nutritious food they need, when they need it.  When COVID-19 shut down our schools, the National School Lunch Program which provides for free and reduced meals was temporarily interrupted. The Hunger Council mobilized resources within 2 days of the school shutdown and was distributing supplemental lunches for families with school aged children within 4.  The Hunger Council also recognized the increased need for home delivered food in our county and worked to support agencies in making sure any older adult or homebound individual within our community had the food they needed available at their doorstep.

The attached COVID-19 Impact Report shares an overview of the work done to ensure all residents had the food they needed and access to it in a way that felt safe.  Many of these agencies had to double, if not triple their numbers to ensure everyone who approached them could access needed food supports.  This type of coordination would not be possible if we did not have an existing coalition already working together to ensure an immediate response to crises in our county.

The Coronavirus Pandemic is not over. Things are not going back to the way they were, not for a while. As businesses re-open, not everyone will have a job to return to. People will have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, and may struggle to provide adequate food for their families. The Hunger Council, and its member organizations are committed to assuring that no one in our community goes hungry. Together we can make sure that everyone in Livingston County who needs a meal will get a meal.
